Tässä vaiheessa lunta ja jäätä oli jäljellä lähinnä varjoisimmilla paikoilla, kuten kuvan kallioisella pohjoisrinteellä. Etelärinteillä lumi oli sulanut jo useita päiviä sitten ja ruohovartisten kasvien kasvu oli paikoin alkanut; mm. leskenlehdet (Tussilago farfara) olivat jo kukassa. Kuvassa olevalla epätasaisella pinnalla lumen jäänteet olivat kauniisti laikuttain, koska talven tuulet olivat kasanneet lunta kinoksittain tämän pinnan muotojen mukaan; lumen sulaessa tilanne paljastui paremmin. At this phase the snow and ice was remaining mainly in the most shadowy places, like on the rocky northern side of the hill in the picture. On southern sides of the hills the snow had been melted allready several days ago and growth of herbacious plants had been started locally; for example Coltsfoots (Tussilago farfara) were in bloom allready. On the uneven surface in the picture the remains of the snow appeared beautifully in patches, because winds of the winter had been drifted snow on snowdrifts according to these shapes of the surface; as the snow was melting the condition was revealed better.
