Tervetuloa seuraamaan vuodenaikojen ilmenemistä urbaaneilla maapinnoilla! Kuvauskohteet ovat Etelä-Suomessa yleensä Espoossa, Helsingissä ja Hämeenlinnassa. Elokuun 2006 loppuun asti päivitysmetodini oli toinen, mutta syyskuusta 2006 lähtien pätee uusi metodi. Siitä esittelyä alla:

Tämä blogi on osa kolmen blogin (muut ovat linkeissä ensimmäisenä) trilogiaa, jossa tuon esille luonnon ja ympäristön esteteettisiä arvoja ja bioklimaattisia prosesseja. Tavoitteeni on saada blogieni lukijat ja katselijat huomaamaan tavallistenkin luonnonilmiöiden esteettisiä piirteitä ja niiden keskinäisiä vuorovaikutussuhteita. Blogeihini tulee tarttumaan myös ilmastonmuutokseen liittyviä poikkeuksellisia olosuhteita, joiden esilletuonti on tärkeää.

Luovan sielun ja maisema-arkkitehdin näkökulma tarkoittaa näiden seikkojen visualisoimista taiteellisesti, mutta samalla taltioiden tieteellisen tarkasti ja kattavasti sen, miltä kukin tilanne näytti ko. hetkellä; yhtäältä vaatimatonkin voi olla erittäin kaunista ja toisaalta poikkeuksellinen / näyttävä ilmiö voi olla paljon enemmän kuin mitä "pinta" antaa ymmärtää.

Pyrin asioiden kansanomaiseen esilletuontiin, mutta osa informaation kunnollisesta ymmärtämisestä vaatii ensin perehtymistä meteorologian ym. luonnonilmiöiden perusasioihin. Joka tapauksessa blogini tarjoavat jokaiselle jotain; niin taiteilija, tiedemies kuin ns. tavallinen kaduntallaaja on nyt kutsuttu mukaan näkemään ja kokemaan eräänlaisten ympäristöjen luontoa eri tarpeiden mukaan hauskan visuaalisesta syvällisen analyyttiseen. Oma asenteeni; vieraalla planeetalla tutkimusta ja luovaa työtä tekevä lapsenmielinen hullu professori ;)

Kukin kuva on laitettu kronologisesti paikalleen siten, että kunkin merkinnän aika vastaa kellontarkasti kuvanottohetkeä. Kuvien ottamisessa olen noudattanut kahta tapaa vaihtelevasti; suunnitelmallisessa tavassa olen ennakoinut eri seikkojen avulla tulevan ilmiön olemusta kuvausta varten ja intuitiivisessa tavassa olen vapaasti ja avoimesti kuvannut sen, mikä on tullut vastaani sattumalta. Suunnitelmallisuutta tukevat yleensä sääennusteet (sekä omat päätelmät että kaikki muut viralliset ennusteet), tilanteiden tietäminen tiettyinä vuodenaikojen / vuorokaudenaikojen hetkinä luonnonkierrossa ja päätökset kuvata jonkin teeman mukaan. Intuitiivinen tapa saa voimaa siitä, jos oivaltaa eri olosuhteiden eroja. Eli on tuntumaa suunnata havainnointia, vaikkei heti tietäisikään mitä kuvattavaa löytyisi.

Seuraavaksi kerron tämän blogin uuden päivitysmetodin sisällöstä:

Lämpötila: Kertoo ko. päivän alimman ja ylimmän lämpötilan Helsingin Puistolan sääasemalta.

Sademäärä: Kertoo ko. päivän sademäärän Helsingin Puistolan sääasemalta. Asema ei kerro kaikkea koko seudun sateista etenkin kesäaikana, jolloin sateissa on suurta paikallista vaihtelua. Tarpeen mukaan sateista kerrotaan lisää.

Tehoisa lämpösumma: Laskemani arvo Helsingin Puistolan sääaseman tietojen perusteella ko. päivänä. Tämä termi kuvaa lämmön määrän kertymistä silloin, kun vuorokauden keskilämpötila on yli +5 astetta. Tällöin on käynnissä kasvukausi. Kasvukauden alkamisajankohta määräytyy, kun ko. +5 astetta on ylitetty 5 päivänä peräkkäin. Tällöin alkamisajankohta on ko. viiden päivän jakson ensimmäinen päivä. Summan arvo saadaan laskemalla yhteen jokaisen päivän keskilämpötilan +5 asteen ylittävät lukemat yhteen. Lämmön määrä on suoraan verrannollinen kasvien kasvun määrään; mitä lämpimämpää on, niin sitä nopeammin kasvit kasvavat ja tietty tehoisan lämpösumman arvo vastaa siten kaikilla kasveilla tiettyä kasvutilannetta. Kuivuus vaikuttaa kasvun määrään sitä hidastavasti. Samoin voi toimia jokin muukin kasvien kasvua häiritsevä tekijä.

Kuvan tilanne: Havainnollistaa kuvassa olevan ilmiön / asian luonnetta ja ominaisuuksia. Kertoo kuvauspaikan ja tarpeen mukaan yksityiskohtia ja / tai yleistä tilanteeseen liittyen.

Sään aiheuttamia ominaisuuksia: Muodostaa kuvassa olevasta ilmiöstä / asiasta kokonaiskuvaa kertomalla sään aiheuttamia vaikutuksia tilanteeseen. Itse sääilmiöistä kerrotaan tarpeen mukaan enemmänkin.

Huomioita: Kertoo kasvukauden tilanteesta ja / tai monista ympäristön seikoista, jotka vaikuttivat kuvassa nähtävään ilmiöön / asiaan. Poimii ajoittain joitakin poikkeuksellisia / erityisiä ominaisuuksia lähempään tarkasteluun. Jo mainittuja seikkoja tarkennetaan tai muita lisätään tarvittaessa kokonaiskuvan täydentämiseksi ja yksityiskohtien selkeyttämiseksi.

Jos ko. päivä sisältää useita kuvia, niin silloin vain alin kuva sisältää nämä kaikki kappaleet. Muissa saman päivän kuvissa on vain tilanteen vaatimat tiedot.

Jokainen merkintä sisältää lopussa linkkejä, jotka laajentavat kuvan ja tekstien tarjoamaa tietoa ja osoittavat laajassa mitassa ko. ilmiön kuuluvan osaksi erilaisia vuorovaikutussuhteita. Linkit tarjoavat erinomaisen kentän muidenkin luonnon piirteiden tutkimiseen eikä vain ko. ilmiön.

Seuraavassa linkeistä: Laitan jokaiseen merkintään säätilastolinkin. Se näyttää Helsingin Puistolan säätietoja. Lämpötilatiedot viittaavat näissä blogeissa yleensä ko. tilastoon. Wetter3 palvelun sääkartat (linkit niihin) kuvaavat säätilanteita Euroopan mittakaavassa ja Gaisma -sivustolta olen poiminut auringon nousu- ja laskuajat Helsingissä. Siinä on havainnollinen kuva myös hämärän ja pimeän ajankohdista kaikkina vuodenaikoina. Jokaisen merkinnän lopussa on myös linkki Flickr -sivuillani oleviin ko. blogin kuukausittaisiin kuvasarjoihin. Kuvat ovat kuvasarjoissa samassa aikajärjestyksessä kuin ko. blogissa. Linkit kuviin ovat kahtena versiona. Flickr -kuvien tarkoitus on olla päivitettynä nykyhetkeen (lähes) ja olla siten tässä tilanteessa maistiaisia ja pelkkiä kuvaelämyksiä ilman tässä blogissa olevaa tietoa.

Lopuksi kerron tarkemmin noiden Wetter3 -palvelun Euroopan sääkartoista.

Wetter3 A. linkki; käyttökelpoisimmat (kansantajuisimmat) sääkartat ovat mm.:

Niederschlagsstärke, u. -form, Bodendrück, jossa nähdään samalla kartalla meren pinnan tasoon redusoitu ilmanpaine (tai pintapaine), sateen voimakkuus ja sateen olomuoto. Kartasta nähdään siten hyvin mm. rintamiin liittyvien sateiden sijainnit, ilmamassojen sijainnit ja tuuliolosuhteet. Kartta 10 m Wind kertoisi tuuliolosuhteista nuolien avulla, mutta kannattaa mieluummin opetella lukemaan tuulen suunnat ja voimakkuudet suoraan ilmanpainekäyristä, sillä ne kertovat samat asiat paljon selkeämmin, tarkemmin ja yksinkertaisemmin kartan jokaisella pisteellä. Ilmanpainekäyrien muodostamasta painekentästä voidaan lukea myös eri ilmamassojen liikkeitä ja ominaisuuksia etenkin, kun sitä verrataan toiseen hyvään karttaan; 2 m Temperatur. Siinä nähdään ilman lämpötila kahden metrin korkeudessa jokaisella kartan pisteellä värikenttinä. Värikentin esitetyt lämpötilat auttavat eri ilmamassojen liikkeiden ja ominaisuuksien havainnointia. Niederschlagsumme -kartta kertoo sademäärän kuuden tunnin jaksoissa. Kaikkia näitä karttoja voidaan tarkastella kuuden tunnin välein myös animaatioina, mikä avartaa informaatiota edelleen; liike havainnollistaa muutosta monin tavoin ja paljastaa lisää ominaisuuksia.

Wetter3 B. -linkki:

Tässä on perinteisempi sääkartta myös kuuden tunnin jaksoilla, jossa meren pinnan tasoon redusoitujen ilmanpainekäyrien lisäksi on merkitty säärintamat. Merkittyjen rintamien avulla eri ilmamassojen sijainnit tarkentuvat vielä lisää em. karttoihin nähden. Kartassa nähdään myös eri sääasemien toteutuneita havaintoja, mutta niiden lukeminen kartasta ei ole kovin havainnollista esim. verrattuna Wetter3 A. -linkin 2 m Temperatur -kartan informaatioon.

Wellcome to observe the expressions of seasons on urban ground surfaces! The photoshooting scenes are in southern Finland usually in Espoo, Helsinki and Hämeenlinna. Up to the end of August 2006 i had an other updating method, but from September 2006 onwards there's a new method holding true. There's presentation about that below:

This blog is a part of the trilogy of three blogs (the others are in the links the first), where i bring foward esthetic values and bioclimatic processes of nature and environment. My aim is to get the readers and watchers of my blogs to notice esthetic appearances of also ordinary natural phenomenons and interactive relationships between them. There will be grabbing also unusual circumstances into my blogs as associated with the climate change. Bringing them up is important.

The view of a creative soul and a landscape architect means visualization of these matters in an artistic way, but at the same time capturing scientifically precisely and comprehensively how every matter appeared at the time in question; in one hand modest as well can be very beautifull and on the other hand an unusual / showy phenomenon can be much more than "meets the eye".

I aim to bring out matters in a vernacular way, but a part of understanding matters properly requires getting to know basic matters of meteorology and other natural phenomenons first. In any case my blogs will offer something to everybody; both a scientist, an artist and a so called ordinary man is now invited along to see and experience nature of one kinds of environments according to different needs from funnily visual to deeply analytical. My own attitude; on an unknown planet a childlike mad professor making a research and a creative work ;)

Every picture is put chronologically in place in the way that timestamp of every post marks precisely the shooting times of the photos. In the photographing i have followed two methods variably; in the systematical method i have foreseen the appearance of the coming phenomenon for the photographing with the help of different matters. In the intuitive method i have freely and openly photographed what have come in my way by chance. The systematical method is sustained usually by the weather forecasts (both my own conclusions and every other official forecasts), knowing of the certain moments at different times of seasons and days in the cycle of nature and decisions to photograph according to a some theme. The intuitive method gets power from the fact, if one realizes differences between different circumstances. In other words one has a touch to channel observation, despite one doesn't have a glue what there would be to be photographed.

Next i'll tell you about the substance of the new updating method concerning this blog:

Temperature: Tells the minimum and maximum temperature of the day in question at the weather station of Puistola district in Helsinki (Finland).

Precipitation: Tells the amount of precipitation of the day in question at the weather station of Puistola district in Helsinki (Finland). The station won't tell all about the rains in the region especially during summer, when there are big local differences in precipitation. There will be more about the rains when needed.

The Effective Temperature Sum: The value calculated by me according to the information of the weather station of Puistola district in Helsinki (Finland) at the day in question. This term describes the accumulation of the warmth's amount during the time, when the daily average temperature is above +5 C. In this case the growing season is ongoing. The starting date of the growing season is determinated, when this +5 C is topped 5 days in a row. Therefore the starting date is the first day of that 5 day series. The value of the sum is derived, when adding daily average temperature values over +5 C together every day. The amount of warmth is directly comparable to the amount of the plant's growth; the warmer it is, the faster the plants grow and therefore a specific value of the effective temperature sum is equivalent to the certain growing stage with every plant. Drought is affecting to the amount of growth as decreasing it. In the same way some other harming factor can function to the growth of the plants as well.

The situation in the picture: Illustrates the character and properties of the phenomenon / matter in the picture. Tells the photoshooting place and details and / or general matters associating with the situation when needed.

Properties caused by the weather: Forms an overall picture from the phenomenon / matter in the picture by telling weather caused influences to the situation. There will be more as well about the weather phenomenons themselves when needed.

Notes: Tells about the situation of the growing season and / or many things of the environment, which were influencing to the phenomenon / matter seen in the picture. Picks up occasionally some unusual or specific properties to a closer examination. Allready told matters are being defined or others being added when needed, in order to complete the overall picture and to make details clearer.

If the day in question includes several photos, therefore only the lowest photo includes all of these paragraphs. In the other photos of the same day there are only the information required by the situation.

Every post includes links at the end, which are widening the information offered by the photos and texts and pointing out in a wide scale the phenomenon in question to be a part of different interactive relationships. The links offer an excellent field to examine other appearances of nature as well and not just the phenomenon in question.

Next about the links: I place a weather chart link on every post. It shows the weather details in the district of Puistola in Helsinki. Information of the air temperature in these blogs refers usually to that chart. In the weather chart: sade = precipitation in mm, lumi = depth of snowcover in cm and maa = soil temperature in the depth of 10cm. The weather maps (the links to them) of Wetter3 service are visualizing weather conditions in the scale of Europe and from the Gaisma pages i have picked up the sunrise and sunset times at Helsinki. In there there's also an illustrative picture about the times of dawn, dusk and darkness during all seasons. At the end of every post there are also a link to my Flickr pages, where the monthly photo sets of the blog in question are. The pictures in the photo sets are in the same time order as they are in the blog in question. The links to the photos are in two versions. The purpose of the Flickr pictures is to be updated to the present time (allmost) and therefore in this situation to be as tasters and plain picture experiences without the matters of this blog.

To the end i'll tell you here also about those Wetter3 - service weathermaps of Europe.

Wetter3 A. link; the most usefull (popular) weathermaps are for example:

Niederschlagsstärke, u. -form, Bodendrück: where we see on the same map the air pressure reduced to the sea level (or the surface pressure), the intensity of precipitation and the form of precipitation. Therefore from the map there is easily observed locations of the precipitation areas associated with the weather fronts, the locations of different air masses and the wind conditions. The map 10 m Wind would tell the wind conditions with arrows, but it is preferably endorsed to learn reading the directions and strengths of the wind straight from the isobar lines, because they tell the same facts much more clearer, accurately and simple on every spot of the map. From the isobars which make the pressure field it can be read also movements and properties of different air masses especially, when it's compared with another great map; 2 m Temperatur. In there the air temperature is seen in the height of 2 metres on every spot of the map as coloured fields. The temperatures defined with the colour fields help to observe movements and properties of different air masses. Niederschlagsumme map shows the amount of precipitation in six hour intervals. All these maps can be observed in six hour intervals also as animations, which widens the information further; a movement illustrates the change in many ways and reveals more properties.

Wetter3 B. link:

In here there is a more traditional weather map also with the six hour intervals, where in addition to the sea level reduced pressure isobars are marked weather fronts. With the help of the marked fronts locations of different air masses become more accurate as compared to the mentioned maps. In the map we see also materialized observations of different weather stations, but reading of them from the map isn't so illustrative for example when compared to the information on the Wetter3 A. link map 2 m Temperatur.

Jäinen talvi vastaan syyslehdet - Icy winter versus autumn leaves

Edellisten päivien lätäköt jäätyivät yön pakkasissa eivätkä enää sulaneet päivällä - Leaves of Norway Maple (Acer platanoides) on an asphalt shed the last during couple of weeks. Puddles of the last days got frozen during the night's frost and they didn't melt anymore during the day.

Kuvan tilanne - Situation in the picture: Varisseita rusotuomipihlajan (Amelanchier lamarckii) lehtiä märällä hiekkakäytävällä. Tämän lajin ruska-aika on pitkä ja se vaihtelee eri yksilöiden kesken. Tässäkin vaiheessa varisi edelleen uusia punaisia lehtiä ja niitä oli jäljellä tässä pensaassa melko paljon. Pensaan sisäosien lehdet olivat kellertäviäkin. Variseminen oli 2 - 3 viikkoa myöhässä tavanomaisesta aikataulusta. Kuva on otettu Espoon Tapiolassa - Shed leaves of June Berry (Amelanchier lamarckii) on a wet sandy pavement. The fall colour time of this species is long and it varies between different specimens. At this phase as well there fell further new red leaves and there were rather much of them left on this shrub. In this case as well the fall colours were 2 - 3 weeks late of an average schedule. There were yet a lot of leaves left on the tree; shedding happened cradually. Tyynen ja leudon sään vaikutuksia - Influences of the calm and mild weather

Kuvan tilanne - Situation in the picture: Varisseita metsävaahteran (Acer platanoides) lehtiä nurmikolla. Tässä vaiheessa osa vaahteroista oli lähes tyhjiä ja osa vielä lähes kesäasussa. Vaihteleva ruska korostui leudon sään takia, mutta nyt laji muodosti lähinnä vain keltaisia - ruskeita syysvärejä; punainen vaihe alkoi olla ohi. Variseminen oli 2 - 3 viikkoa myöhässä tavanomaisesta aikataulusta. Kuva on otettu Espoon Tapiolassa - Shed leaves of Norway Maple (Acer platanoides) on a lawn. At this phase a part of the maples were allmost empty and an other part were yet allmost in summer foliage. The variable fall colours were emphazised due to the mild weather, but now the species produced mainly just yellow - brown fall colours; the red phase started to be over. Kuvan tilanne - Situation in the picture: Varisseita hurmevaahteran (Acer platanoides "Faassen's Black") lehtiä nurmikolla. Nurmikon leikkuun myötä lehdet asettuivat koneen tekemiin riveihin. Nurmikon leikkaaminen näin myöhään kuvasi hyvin lokakuun alussa jatkunutta poikkeuksellista lämpimyyttä. Puissa oli vielä runsaasti lehtiä jäljellä. Due to the lawn mowing the leaves were cast onto lines made by the machine. The mowing of the lawn so late displayed well the unusual warmth continued in the early part of October. Tässä tilanteessa edelliset varisseet lehdet oli poistettu ja nämä olivat varisseet kahden päivän sisällä. Puussa oli edelleen suurin osa lehdistä. Lehdet varisivat symmetrisesti puun alle, koska sää oli ollut pari päivää hyvin tyyni. Variseminen oli edelleen 2 - 3 viikkoa myöhässä tavanomaisesta aikataulusta. In this situation the previous fallen leaves had been removed and these had been dropped within two days. There were further most of the leaves on the tree. Erivaiheisesti mädäntyneitä lehtiä hedelmillä - Leaves in different stages of rottening with fruits

Kuvan tilanne - Situation in the picture: Varisseita japaninsiipipähkinän (Pterocarya rhoifolia) hedelmiä puistokäytävällä. Puissa oli vielä lähes täysin kesäasuinen lehdistö, mutta hedelmät varisivat 2 - 3 viikkoa etuajassa suuren lämpömäärän ja kesän kuivuuden auttamana jo syyskuun alusta lähtien vähitellen. There was yet allmost fully green summer foliage on the trees, but the fruits dropped 2 - 3 weeks ahead of schedule allready from early September onwards cradually as helped by the big amount of warmth and the summer's drought. Se kävi ilmi tässäkin vaiheessa, kun osa noista lehdistä oli jo kuivia - mädäntyneitä; vaalea sävy. Puussa oli vielä kohtalaisesti lehtiä; varisevat vähitellen. Variseminen oli 2 - 3 viikkoa myöhässä tavanomaisesta aikataulusta. Kuva on otettu Helsingissä Meilahden arboretumissa - Shed leaves of Whitebeam (Sorbus aria) on a lawn. This cultivar produces leaves, which have surfaces of very dense white down. It was revealed at this phase as well, as a part of those leaves were allready dry - rotten; the light tone. There were yet moderately leaves on the tree; they shed cradually. The shedding was 2 - 3 weeks late of an average schedule. The photo is taken at the arboretum of Meilahti in Helsinki.

Oaks were variably displaying fall colours at this phase; a part of the trees were allmost in summer foliage and an other part of the trees were near fall colour peak. These trees were yet allmost in full leaf, but leaves are falling allready at the beginning of the species fall colours. The shedding was 2 - 3 weeks late of an average schedule. This species shed its leaves rather early, so the tree was allready allmost empty in the situation. The leaves of the species are interestingly bluish on their downside. This specimen produces a lot of red fall colours and earlier than many other Wild Cherries of this region. Due to the further continued frostless circumstances these leaves as well dropped cradually. Neulaset olivat varisseet vähitellen jo syyskuun aikana, mutta kuvasin ne vasta nyt. Niiden variseminen oli vähemmän myöhässä lehtipuiden lehtien varisemiseen nähden; kuivuus aikaisti varisemista. The needles had been fallen cradually allready during September, but I photographed them only now. Mätäneviä lehtimattoja ja sateiden ilmentymiä - Rottening leaf carpets and appearances of the rains

Kuvan tilanne - Situation in the picture: Alkupäivän aikana tulleet sadekuurot jättivät asfalttipintoja tässä vaiheessa sen verran märiksi lätäköineen, että tilaisuus oli otollinen mielenkiintoisille heijastuksille. Tässä oli eräs Hämeenlinnan Paasikiventiellä nähty heijastus. Yhden kuuropilvien jäljessä olleet hahtuvapilvet heijastuivat myös lätäkön oikeassa yläkulmassa - Showers of the early part of the day left asphalt surfaces so much wet, that there was a good chance for interesting reflections. Here was one reflection seen at the Paasikiventie road in Hämeenlinna. Altocumulus clouds in the backside of one cumulonimbus cloud reflected as well on the upper right corner of the puddle.

Kuvan tilanne - Situation in the picture: Varisseita punasaarnin (Fraxinus pennsylvanica) lehtiä märällä asfaltilla. Edelliseen kuvaan verrattuna tässä lehdet olivat muodostaneet autoliikenteen (vain vähän sitä) takia hyvin tiiviin kerroksen ja koko ajan kosteina pysyessään ne jäivät paikalleen. Leuto sää nopeutti mätänemistä. Märkä asfaltti heijasti osittain selkeän taivaan sinisyyttä voimakkaasti. Kuva on otettu Hämeenlinnassa - Shed leaves of Green Ash (Fraxinus pennsylvanica) on a wet asphalt. As compared to the previous photo here the leaves had been formed a very tight layer due to a car traffic (only little of it) and as they were kept allmost all the time wet they remained in their place. The mild weather fastened the rottening. The wet asphalt reflected strongly the blueness of the partly clear sky. The photo is taken in Hämeenlinna.

Vanhimmat mädät lehdet olivat lajille tyypillisesti erittäin tummia. Variseminen oli edelleen 2 - 3 viikkoa myöhässä tavanomaisesta aikataulusta. Kuva on otettu Hämeenlinnassa - Shed leaves of Wych Elm (Ulmus glabra) on a lawn. As compared to the previous photo of the same species here there were now much more leaves; fall colours of the tree in question had been proceeded further, but they were only in about a halfway mark. Kuvan tilanne - Situation in the picture: Sadevesi tekee hauskoja jälkiä hiekkapintaisille käytäville kulkiessaan niiden pinnoilla. Olen lapsesta asti seurannut näitäkin luonnon jälkiä mielenkiinnolla. Jäljistä voidaan päätellä sateen voimakkuuksia; tässä tapauksessa sade oli ollut kohtalaista. Kuvassa oli myös muutamia koivujen (Betula sp.) lehtiä; niiden ruska oli vasta lähestymässä puoliväliä. Kuva on otettu Espoon Tapiolassa - Rainwater forms funny tracks onto the sand paved paths as it moves on their surfaces. I have been observing since my childhood these natural marks as well with interest. From the tracks one can conclude intensity of the rains; in this case the rain have been moderate. Kuvan tilanne - Situation in the picture: Tämä lätäkkö oli jäänyt useaksi päiväksi jo kuun 1. päivän ukkossateista ja se täydentyi lisää tämän päivän sateista. Sen pinnalla oli tyypillisesti vaahtoa, joka syntyi sadeveden kulkiessa lätäkköön erilaisten maa-ainesten pinnalla; veteen sekoittui ilmaa pieninä kuplina. Kuva on otettu Espoon Tapiolassa - This puddle had been remained for several days allready from the thundery rains of the month's 1st day and it was added more from the rains of this day. On its surface there was typically foam, which was formed as the rain water moved to the puddle on different types of soil matters; there fused air into the water as small bubbles. Kuvan tilanne - Situation in the picture: Päivän kuurottaisista sateista nurmikolle jäänyttä vettä. Maaperä kastui kunnolla kuun 1. päivän ukkossateissa. Lisäksi kosteuden haihtuminen oli tässä vaiheessa vuotta jo vähäistä. Sen takia melko vähäisetkin sateet aiheuttivat lätäköitä, kun edellisetkään eivät olleet ehtineet kuivua kunnolla. Kuivuuden jälkeen tämä kosteus oli erittäin tervetullutta. Kuva on otettu Espoon Tapiolassa - Water on a lawn left from the showery rains of the day. The ground wetted properly during the thundery rains at the 1st day of the month. In addition the evaporation of the water was allready minor at this phase of the year. Due to that also rather minor rains caused puddles, as previous ones hadn't had time to dry properly either. After the drought this moisture was very wellcomed. Omenoita ja värikästä varhaisruskan lehtisatoa - Apples and a colourfull leaf crop of early fall colours

Kuvan tilanne - Situation in the picture: Varisseita metsäomenapuun (Malus sylvestris) hedelmiä nurmikolla. Lehdet olivat puussa vielä lähes kesäasuisina. Kuivuudesta huolimatta puu jaksoi valmistaa nuo hedelmät (tosin aluetta kasteltiin) ja nyt ne olivat varisseet melkein kokonaan parisen viikkoa etuajassa ennätyksellisen suuren lämpömäärän ansiosta. Kuva on otettu Helsingissä Kaisaniemen kasvitieteellisessä puutarhassa - Shed fruits of European Crabapple (Malus sylvestris) on a lawn. The leaves were on the tree yet allmost as summer green. Despite the drought the tree was able to produce those fruits (though, the area was watered) and now they had been fallen allmost completely couple of weeks ahead of schedule thanks to the record amount of warmth. Niiden ruska on vaihtelevaa; toisaalla saman lajin puu oli vasta ruskan alussa, kun tämä puu oli sen loppuvaiheissa. Variseminen oli 2 - 3 viikkoa myöhässä tavanomaisesta aikataulusta. Their fall colours are variable; elsewhere the fall colours of the same species tree were only at the beginning, as this tree was in the final stages of them. Tässä on jälleen esimerkki tämän lajin ruskan vaihtelevuudesta; nyt pääväri oli keltainen, koska tämä puu oli jo ohittanut punaisten lehtien vaiheen. Nuo ruskeat lehdet olivat olleet punertavia ja varisseet ensin. Variseminen oli 2 - 3 viikkoa myöhässä tavanomaisesta aikataulusta. Kuvan tilanne - Situation in the picture: Varisseita sirovaahteran (Acer sieboldianum) lehtiä hakkeen päällä. Varjoisassa paikassa punaisia lehtiä oli syntynyt hyvin vähän. Variseminen oli 2 - 3 viikkoa myöhässä tavanomaisesta aikataulusta, mutta tässä puussa oli enää vain vähän lehtiä. Maassa oli leinikin (Ranunculus sp.) uusia lehtiä; leuto ja kostea sää vaikutti. Kuva on otettu Helsingissä Kaisaniemen kasvitieteellisessä puutarhassa - Shed leaves of Siebold's Maple (Acer sieboldianum) on a mulch. At a shadowy place there had been formed red leaves only very little. The shedding was 2 - 3 weeks late of an average schedule, but there was only little of leaves left anymore on this tree. Värikkäitä Prunus -lehtimattoja - Colourfull Prunus leaf carpets

Kuvan tilanne - Situation in the picture: Varisseita imeläkirsikan (Prunus avium) lehtiä nurmikolla. Ruska oli noin puolivälissä tällä puulla ja lehdet olivat varisseet jo muutaman päivän ajan. Muualla laji oli vielä kesävihreäkin; tässä vaikutti osittain kesän kuivuus. Variseminen oli muutoin 2 - 3 viikkoa myöhässä tavanomaisesta aikataulusta. Kuva on otettu Espoon Tapiolassa - Shed leaves of Wild Cherry (Prunus avium) on a lawn. Fall colours were about at a half way mark on this tree and leaves had been fallen allready for a few days. Elsewhere the species was yet summer green as well; here affected partly the drought of the summer. Otherwise the shedding was 2 - 3 weeks late of an average schedule. Tämän puun lehdet olivat varisseet etuajassa (vähän heikentynyt puu) muihin seudun pilvikirsikoihin verrattuna, mutta variseminen oli 2 - 3 viikkoa myöhässä. The leaves of this tree had been shed prematurely (the tree weakened a bit) as compared to the other Fire Cherries in the region, but the shedding was 2 - 3 weeks late of an average schedule. At this phase there shed red and orange leaves the most from this tree species; the tree creates at first these fall colours and then mostly yellow. Variseminen oli 2 - 3 viikkoa myöhässä tavanomaisesta aikataulusta. Kohtalainen etelätuuli muodosti tuon verran aaltoja. Kuva on ottettu Hämeenlinnassa - Shed leaves of Green Ash (Fraxinus pennsylvanica) on a lawn at the shore of Vanajavesi lake beside a retaining wall. The trees were allmost empty at this phase. The sheddng was 2 - 3 weeks late of an average schedule. A moderate southerly wind created that much waves. The photo is taken in Hämeenlinna.

Kuvan tilanne - Situation in the picture: Varisseita ohionhevoskastanjan (Aesculus glabra) lehtiä nurmikolla. Lehdet olivat varisseet tyypillisesti lehdyköittäin. Laji oli ohittamassa ruskansa huippua ja (tämä) nuori puu oli jo n. puoliksi varistanut lehtensä. Ruska oli kuitenkin myöhässä n. kaksi viikkoa. Edellisen päivän kuvasarjaan verrattuna tihkusade oli kastellut nämä lehdet. Kuva on otettu Helsingin Kaisaniemen kasvitieteellisessä puutarhassa - Shed leaves of Ohio Buckeye (Aesculus glabra) on a lawn. The leaves had been dropped typically as single leaflets at the time. The species was passing its fall colours peak and (this) young tree was allready half way through from dropped all its leaves. However fall colours were about two weeks late of schedule. As compared to the previous day's photo series, a drizzle had been wetted these leaves. The photo is taken in the botanical garden of Kaisaniemi in Helsinki.

Myöhäistä lehtimattoa ja aikaista hedelmämattoa - A late leaf carpet and an early fruit carpet

Kuvan tilanne - Situation in the picture: Tässä alla on usean kuvan sarja, joka on kuvattu Espoon Tapiolassa. Ruska oli tässä vaiheessa n. kaksi viikkoa myöhässä normaalista aikataulusta elokuun lopun sateiden ja ennätyslämpimän syyskuun takia. Lehdet varisivat ilman pakkasen vaikutusta ja alkoivat kuivumaan melko nopeasti korpuiksi, koska syyskuussa satoi hyvin vähän. Ilmamassat olivat kuitenkin usein kosteita. Tässä kuvassa oli varisseita japaninjalopähkinän (Juglans ailanthifolia) lehtiä asfaltilla. Laji oli vaihtelevasti osittaisessa ruskassa; osa puista oli ruskan huipussa (kuten kuvan tilanteessa ja jo varistamassa lehtiään) ja osa vasta ruskan alussa melkein kokonaan kesäasussa - Here undermneath is a series of several photos, which is photographed at the district of Tapiola in Espoo. Fall colours were at this phase about two weeks late of a normal schedule due to the rains of the August's end and the record warmth of September. The leaves dropped without the influence of frost and they started to dry up crispy rather fast, because it rained very little during September. However air masses were many times humid. In this photo there were shed leaves of Japanese Walnut (Juglans ailanthifolia) on an asphalt. The species was having in a typical way a partial fall colours; a part of the trees were peaking their fall colours (like in the case of the photo and allready shedding their leaves) and an other part only at the beginning of fall colours allmost in full summer foliage.

Kuvan tilanne - Situation in the picture: Varisseita pilvikirsikan (Prunus pennsylvanica) lehtiä afaltilla. Lehdet olivat kerääntyneet asfaltin reunakiveä vasten. Tämä laji oli tulossa tässä vaiheessa ruskansa huippuun, mutta tällä paikalla oleva puu oli varistanut ennenaikaisesti jo suurimman osan lehdistään. Laji on joka tapauksessa ensimmäisten lajien joukossa kirkkaassa ruskassa Etelä-Suomessa - Shed leaves of Fire Cherry / Pin Cherry (Prunus pennsylvanica) on an asphalt. The leaves were gathered against the side stone of the asphalt. This species was reaching the peak of its fall colours at this phase, but the tree at this spot had been dropped most of its leaves prematurely. In any case the species is among the first ones to reach bright fall colours in southern Finland.

Nämä lehdet olivat varisseet vähitellen syyskuun aikana ja syynä niiden varisemiseen oli lähinnä kesän kuivuus. Lajin varsinainen ruska oli vielä alkamatta ja puiden latvukset olivat melkein kokonaan kesäasussa - Shed leaves of Common Linden (Tilia X vulgaris) on a lawn. These leaves had been dropped cradually during September and the reason for their shedding was mainly the drought of the summer. The actual fall colours of the species were yet unappeared and the crowns of the trees were allmost in full summer foliage.

Kuvan tilanne - Situation in the picture: Varisseita metsä- / kesätammen (Quercus robur) terhoja ja lehtiä nurmikolla. Kyseessä on sama tammi kuin alla olevassa kuvassa. Tässä lehdet olivat jääneet kiinni karheaan nurmikkoon. Tässä vaiheessa tammilla oli vielä pääasiassa kesäasu, mutta tyypilliseen tapaan jo elokuun lopulta lähtien yksittäisten oksien lehdet kellastuivat ja varisivat vähitellen sieltä täältä. Kuivuus nopeutti tätä ilmiötä hieman - Shed acorns and leaves of English Oak (Quercus robur) on a lawn. This is the same oak in question as in the photo underneath. Here the leaves had been stucked onto the crisp lawn. At this phase oaks had yet mainly a summer foliage, but in the typical way allready since the end of August leaves of single shoots turned yellow and dropped cradually from here and there. The drought accelerated a bit this feature.

Kuvan tilanne - Situation in the picture: Murskaantuneita metsä- / kesätammen terhoja asfaltilla. Kohdalla on kevyttä liikennettä. Kesän kuivuudesta huolimatta isot tammet tuottivat näiden kahden kuvan tapaan hyvin runsaan terhosadon ja se varisi yli kaksi viikkoa etuajassa suuren lämpömäärän takia - Crushed acorns of English Oak on an asphalt. There are pedestrian traffic at the spot. Despite the drought of the summer big Oak trees formed in the way of these two photos a very large crop of acorns and it was dropped over two weeks ahead of schedule due to the big amount of warmth.

Kuvan tilanne - Situation in the picture: Varisseita metsämännyn (Pinus sylvestris) käpysuomuja asfaltilla. Niiden seassa oli muutamia saman lajin neulasia ja koivun (Betula sp.) siemeniä. Mäntyjen kävyt varisevat normaalisti kokonaisina, mutta tässä tapauksessa orava oli syönyt männyn siemeniä ja hajottanut samalla kävyt - Shed cone scales of Scots Pine (Pinus sylvestris) on an asphalt. Amongst them there were some needles of the same species and seeds of birch trees (Betula sp.). Pine cones shed normally as a whole, but in this case a squirrel had been eaten pine seeds and broken the cones at the same time.

Kuvan tilanne - Situation in the picture: Varisseita salavan (Salix fragilis) lehtiä nurmikolla. Tyypilliseen tapaan tämän lajin ruskavärit ovat himmeitä ja poikkeavat vihreästä hyvin vähän. Lehtien variseminen oli tällä lajilla vasta alussa ja suurin osa lehvästöstä oli edelleen puissa tässä vaiheessa - Shed leaves of Crack Willow (Salix fragilis) on a lawn. In a typical way the fall colours of this species are dull and they differ from green very little. The leaf shedding was only at the beginning in the case of this species and a most part of the foliage was further on the trees at this phase.

Kuvan tilanne - Situation in the picture: Varisseita rauduskoivun (Betula pendula) lehtiä nurmikolla. Lehdet olivat järjestyneet riveihin nurmikon leikkuun yhteydessä pari päivää aikaisemmin. Ruskeimmat lehdet olivat varisseet jo elokuusta lähtien kuivuuden takia. Lajin varsinainen ruska oli tässä vaiheessa vaihtelevasti osittaista; osa puista oli lähes ruskan huipussa ja osa vielä kesäasussa - Shed leaves of Silver Birch (Betula pendula) on a lawn. The leaves were assembled into stripes at the time of the lawn's mowing a couple of days earlier. The most brown leaves had been shed allready since August due to the drought. The actual fall colour of the species was at this phase variably partial; a part of the trees were allmost peaking their fall colours and an other part was yet in summer foliage.

In this photo there are shed apples (Malus X domestica) between shrubs. There are also old sprouts of Stinging Nettle (Urtica dioica) in the picture. The shedding of these apples as well were over two weeks ahead of an average schedule; note the effective temperature sum.

Sienien ryntäystä kuivuuden jälkeen - A rush of mushrooms after the drought

Kuvan tilanne - Situation in the picture: Runsas ryhmä koivunkantosientä (Kuehneromyces mutabilis) vanhan kannon päällä Helsingin Kaisaniemen kasvitieteellisessä puutarhassa. Elokuun lopussa tulleet sateet ja syyskuun aikana jatkunut kosteus saivat viimein ko. sienilajin itiöemät esille yhdellä kertaa ja nopeasti parissa viikossa, kun lämpöäkin oli sopivasti. Kesän kuivuus ei tuhonnut sientä kannosta, koska aluetta kasteltiin pitkin kesää. Sadetus ei ollut silti riittävää sienten ilmaantumiselle vielä silloin. Monet sienet eivät tuottaneet edes tässä vaiheessa itiöemiä kunnolla kuivuuden takia - A profuse group of Sheathed Woodtuft (Kuehneromyces mutabilis) mushrooms on the top of a stump at the botanical garden of Kaisaniemi in Helsinki. The rains fallen at the end of August and the humidity continued during September caused the spore heads to apprear at once and fast in two weeks, as there was enough warmth as well. The drought of the summer didn't kill the mushroom from the stump, bacause the area was watered during the summer. Though, the watering wasn't yet enough for the appearing of the mushrooms during that time. Many mushrooms didn't form spore heads properly even at this phase due to the drought.

Punalehtimattoa hedelmillä - A red leaf carpet with fruits

Kuvan tilanne - Situation in the picture: Varisseita ussurinpäärynän (Pyrus ussuriensis) lehtiä nurmikolla kuvattuna samassa arboretumissa kahden edellisen kuvan tapaan hetkeä myöhemmin. Tämä laji tekee ensimmäisenä punasaarnin (Fraxinus pennsylvanica) tapaan ruskaa eteläisen Suomen ulkomaisista puulajeista. Tämä ruska muodostuu kuitenkin epäsännöllisesti ja vaiheittain; nämä lehdet olivat ensimmäisen ruska-annoksen satoa. Sää oli pilvinen kaikissa kolmessa kuvassa - Shed leaves of Chinese Pear (Pyrus ussuriensis) on a lawn photographed at the same arboretum in the way of the two previous photos a moment later. This species creates fall colours the first in the way of Green Ash (Fraxinus pennsylvanica) among the foreign tree species of southern Finland. However this fall colour forms in an uneven and cradual way; these leaves were the crop of the first fall colour portion. The weather was cloudy in all three photos.

Tämänkin lajin ruska oli osittain alkanut, mutta muidenkin lajien tapaan se oli huomattavasti myöhässä tavanomaisesta aikataulusta kesän kuivuuden jälkeen tulleiden sateiden ja hyvin lämpimänä jatkuneen syyskuun takia - Shed fruits of Japanese Walnut (Juglans ailanthifolia) and a bit of its leaves on a sandy pavement photographed at the same arboretum as the previous photo. Fall colours of this species as well had been started to appear, but in the way of the other species as well they were significantly delayed from an average schedule due to the rains after the summer's drought and due to the September continued very warm.

Nämä hedelmät alkoivat varista jo elokuun lopulla sekä kuivuuden että suuren lämpömäärän takia (huomaa tehoisa lämpösumma). Tässä vaiheessa puut olivat jo melkein tyhjiä hedelmistä, mutta ruska oli vasta alussaan. Kuva on otettu Helsingissä Meilahden arboretumissa - Shed fruits of Japanese Wingnut (Pterocarya rhoifolia) on a sandy pavement. There was also few leaves of the species in question among there as dropped due to the drought. These fruits started to shed allready at the end of August both due to the drought and the big amount of warmth (note the effective temperature sum). At this phase the trees were allready allmost empty from the fruits, but fall colours were only in the beginning. The photo is taken in Helsinki at the arboretum of Meilahti district.

Punasaarnin myöhään varisseita lehtiä - Late dropped leaves of Green Ash

Kuvan tilanne - Situation in the picture: Runsasta määrää varisseita punasaarnin lehtiä nurmikolla. Edellisen kuvan tapaan tämä on kuvattu Hämeenlinnassa pientä hetkeä myöhemmin. Tilanteessa vallitsi kokonainen varjo (aurinko paistoi edelleen). Punasaarni kehittää ulkomaisista puista ensimmäisenä ruskaa Etelä-Suomen puistoissa ja puutarhoissa - A profuse amount of shed leaves of Green Ash on a lawn. In the way of the previous photo this is photographed in Hämeenlinna a small moment later. There prevailed a complete shadow in the situation (the sun shined further). Green Ash creates fall colours the first among the foreign tree species in parks and gardens in southern Finland.

Kuvan tilanne - Situation in the picture: Runsasta määrää varisseita punasaarnin (Fraxinus pennsylvanica) lehtiä asfaltilla. Aurinko paistoi tilanteessa untuva- ja harsopilvien läpi ja lehmukset (Tilia sp.) muodostivat varjot. Nämä kaksi kuvaa tältä päivältä näyttävät punasaarnin kehittäneen ruskansa huippuunsa edellisen punasaarnikuvan jälkeen. Osa puista oli jo melkein tyhjiä, mutta osassa oli vielä vähän vihreitäkin lehtiä - A profuse amount of shed leaves of Green Ash (Fraxinus pennsylvanica). Ths sun shined through cirrus and cirrostratus clouds and Lindens (Tilia sp.) creatred the shadows in the situation. These two photos of the day showed Green Ash to have created its fall colours to the peak since the previous Green Ash photo. A part of the trees were allready allmost empty, but an other part had yet a bit of green leaves as well.

Sammalkasvua ja varisseita omenia - A moss growth and shed apples

Kuvan tilanne - Situation in the picture: Saman omenapuun varisseita hedelmiä kuin edellisessäkin kuvassa, mutta nyt nurmikolla. Tämän takia nämä hedelmät eivät olleet yhtä liiskaantuneita tässä kuvassa. Ko. koristeomena (Malus sp.) on vanhaa tunnistamatonta lajiketta (mm. valkoiset kukat). Kuvassa on vähän sen lehtiäkin. Nämä kolme kuvaa on otettu Espoon Tapiolassa - Shed fruits of the same appletree as in the previous photo as well, but now on a lawn. Due to that the fruits weren't equally as much crushed in this picture. The Crab Apple in question is an old unintentified cultivar (for example white flowers). There are a bit of its leaves as well in the photo. These three photos are taken in the Tapiola district in Espoo.

Kuvan tilanne - Situation in the picture: Varisseita ja murskaantuneitakin koristeomenalajikkeen hedelmiä hiekkakäytävällä. Poikkeuksellisen suuren lämmön määrän (huomaa tehoisa lämpösumma) takia näiden hedelmien variseminen alkoi jo elokuun lopulla kuivuudenkin auttamana yli kaksi viikkoa etuajassa. Tyypilliseen tapaan variseminen jatkui kuvan ottoon asti - Shed and also crushed fruits of a Crab Apple cultivar on a sandy pavement. Due to the unusually big amount of warmth (note the effective temperature sum) shedding of these fruits started allready at the end of August over two weeks ahead of schedule as helped by the drought as well. In a typical way the shedding continued up to the photoshoot.

Kuvan tilanne - Situation in the picture: Kasvavaa sammalta asfaltin pienessä kuopassa. Kesän kuivuuden aikana mm. pölyä kerääntyi runsaasti erilaisille pinnoille. Sitten elokuun lopun sateet huhtoivat pintoja ja tämä aines siirtyi tällaisiin kuoppiin sammalten kasvualustaksi. Kosteus säilyi kuvan tapaan syyskuun alun heikkojenkin sateiden turvin haihdunnan vähennyttyä; lämmön ja kosteuden suhteen syys - lokakuu ovat normaalistikin sammalten parasta kasvuaikaa Etelä-Suomessa. Illan aurinko paistoi jo matalalta; kts. ajankohdan auringon laskuaika alla olevasta linkistä - A growing moss on the small bumb in the asphalt. During the drought of the summer for example dust gathered a lot on different surfaces. Then the rains of the August's end flushed the surfaces and this matter moved into these kinds of bumbs to form growing platforms for mosses. Myöhäistä ja erikoista varisemista - A late and peculiar shedding

Kuvan tilanne - Situation in the picture: Varisseita lumimarjan (Symphoricarpos rivularis) lehtiä ja marjoja käytävällä pensaiden vieressä talon pohjoisseinustalla. Näiden variseminen jäi mysteeriksi, koska normaalisti ne eivät tässä vaiheessa varise näin. Marjat tosin olivat huomattavan ylikypsiä (heikosti kiinni) poikkeuksellisen suuren lämpömäärän takia; huomaa tehoisan lämpösumman arvo. Lehdet olivat kuitenkin kiinni tiukasti. Aiheuttaja lienee jokin lintu suurena joukkona... Tämän päivän kaksi kuvaa on otettu Hämeenlinnassa - Shed leaves and berries of Common Snowberry (Symphoricarpos rivularis) on a pavement beside the shrubs at the northern wall of a building. Shedding of these remained a mystery, because normally they don't shed at this phase in this way. The berries were significantly over ripe (weakly entact) due to the unusually big amount of warmth, though; note the value of the effective temperature sum. However the leaves were tightly entact. The responsible for this may be some bird in a large flock... The two photos of this day are taken in Hämeenlinna.

Kuvan tilanne - Situation in the picture: Ensimmäisenä varisseita punasaarnin (Fraxinus pennsylvanica) lehtiä nurmikolla. Tässä vaiheessa punasaarnit olivat vasta noin puoliruskassa. Kuivan kesän jälkeen tulleiden sateiden ja erittäin lämpimän syyskuun alun takia ruska oli jopa n. kaksi viikkoa myöhässä tavanomaisesta aikataulusta. Nurmikot kasvoivat nyt uudestaan rehevästi sitten kesäkuun alun - Firstly shed leaves of Green Ash (Fraxinus pennsylvanica) on a lawn. At this phase Green Ashes were yet only in a half way to full fall colours. Due to the rains after the dry summer and the very warm early September fall colours appeared even about two weeks late of an average schedule. Lawns were growing now exuberantly again since the early June.

The young group of trees on the right created shadows due to the low shining sun. The enormous advance of the growing season (the huge value of the effective temperature sum) didn't affect significantly, because this was the case of the tree's fall colours; the trees had been stopped their summer growth allready long ago, but the drought made the fall colours appear early.

Huomioita - Notes: Neulasten määrä oli suuri, koska kohdalla on isoja ja vanhoja metsämäntyjä. Neulasten varseminen oli niin lopuillaan, että puissa oli enää vain vähän kellastuneita neulasia. Ihmisten kulku kohdan yli aiheutti neulasmassaan noita "kahluujälkiä" - The amount of needles was huge, because there is big and old Scots Pines at the spot. The shedding of the needles was so much at the end of its cycle, that there were only little of yellow needles on the trees. Walking of people caused those "wading marks" onto that mass of needles.

Ennenaikaista varisemista - A shedding ahead of schedule

Kuvan tilanne - Situation in the picture: Euroopanpähkinäpensaan (Corylus avellana) varisseita hedelmiä osittain syötyinä ja osittain murskautuneina (ihmisten kävely) kivituhkakäytävällä. Aurinko paistoi lehvästön läpi osittain - Shed fruits of European Hazel (Corylus avellana) partly eaten and partly crushed (walking of people) on a so called "stoneash" paved path. The sun was shining partially through the leaves.

Properties caused by the weather: Syyt varisemiseen olivat samat kuin alimman kuvan kohdalla mainitut. Tässä tapauksessa monta viikkoa tavanomaista varhaisempi variseminen oli tapahtunut jo elokuun alkupuolelta asti; puussa / pensaassa ei ollut enää yhtään pähkinää - Reasons for the shedding were the same as mentioned at the case of the lowest photo. In this case the shedding several weeks ahead of schedule had been happened allready since the early part of August; there was no nuts left anymore on the tree / shrub.

Elvyttävää ja puhdistavaa sadetta - A stimulating and cleaning rain

Kuuron lyhytkestoisuus ilmeni tilanteesta hyvin; enää ei satanut, vaikka puro oli vasta alkanut virrata. Sään aiheuttamia ominaisuuksia - Properties caused by the weather: Nurmikko alkoi kasvaa uudestaan elokuun lopussa tulleiden sateiden myötä. Kasvua edesauttavaa kosteutta lisäsi myös vähitellen pimentyvät yöt, koska kasteaika pidentyi sen takia öisin ja aamuisin; kts. linkistä auringon nousu- ja laskuaikoja - The lawn started to grow again due to the arrived rains at the end of August. Huomioita - Notes: Kesän kuivuus oli niin paha, että nurmikko toipui vain osittain. Kuolleet laikut olivat joko hiekkaisimpia kohtia ja / tai herkimpiä heiniä ym. kasveja kasvavia kohtia. Due to the rains the recovering from the drought was showing the first just on the lawns, because even rather small amount of precipitation reached to wet the lawn's thin layer of roots and at this time of late summer it didn't dry up much easily anymore. The dead spots got darker as they wetted; disruptive actions of the bacteria and other microbes started.

Sään aiheuttamia ominaisuuksia - Properties caused by the weather: Lehdet varisivat parin viime viikon aikana vihreinä, koska päättymässä ollut kaikkien aikojen pahin kuivuus heikensi ko. kohdalla (normaalisti hyvin kostea) olevia isojakin puita sen verran. Viimein tulleet sateet saivat voikukat tekemään nopeasti uusia lehtiä - The leaves were shed during the last couple of weeks as green, because the ending worst drought of all time made the even big trees on the spot (normally very moist) so much weaker. Tässä on ko. kuun 24. päivän kuvaan verrattuna makedonianmännyn (Pinus peuce) varisseita neulasia nurmikolla Espoon Tapiolassa. Seassa oli yksittäisiä rauduskoivun (Betula pendula) lehtiä, mikä ilmensi joidenkin lehtipuiden edelleen varistavan vähän lehtiään, vaikka kuivuuden aiheuttamat vaivat olivat vähentymässä. Näiden neulasten suhteen tässäkin tapauksessa oli kyseessä normaali loppukesän - alkusyksyn neulasten variseminen, joka on tyypillistä männyille. Kuivuuden takia neulasten variseminen oli kuitenkin tämänkin lajin kohdalla parisen viikkoa edellä normaalista aikataulusta. Tällä kohdalla nurmikko oli edelleen ruskea, koska viime päivien sateet eivät päässeet kunnolla tiheän ja ison puun latvuksen läpi. Toisekseen näin runsaasti varrisseet neulaset tukahduttivat jo aluskasvillisuutta. Nurmikoiden kasvu oli alkanut silti jo monin paikoin uudestaan, mutta vain harvoilla paikoilla uutta kasvua oli leikattavaksi asti. Niinpä tällaiset neulasmatot saivat edelleen levätä rauhassa puutarhojen ja puistojen nurmikoilla siellä, missä niitä ei oltu vielä haravoitu pois. Säätilanne: valitse Base Time 29.8.2006. Wetter3 A. In here there is shed needles of Macedonian Pine (Pinus peuce) on a lawn in the district of Tapiola in Espoo as compared to the photo of the 24th of this month. There were single Silver Birch (Betula pendula) leaves among there, which was showing that some broadleave trees were shedding further a bit their leaves, allthough harms of the drought were getting easier. Regarding these needles there was also in this case a question of a normal late summer - early autumn shedding of needles, which is typical of pines. However due to the drought the shedding of the needles was about two weeks ahead of normal schedule also concerning this species. In this spot the lawn was further brown, because the rains of the recent days weren't able to get properly through the dense and big crown of the tree. Secondly such a big amount of shed needles were allready suffocating the undergrowth. The growth of the lawns had been started again though in many places, but only in few places there was enough new growth for mowing. Therefore these kinds of needle carpets had further a change to rest on the lawns of gardens and parks in there, where they hadn't yet been raked away. Weather condition: choose Base Time 29.8.2006. Edellisen päivän ukkoskuuron vaikutuksia oli myös tässä kuvassa kuvattuna aikaisin aamulla. Siinä nähdään veden mukana kuvioittain kasaantuneita metsäkuusen (Picea abies) neulasia. Pitkän kuivuuden aikana niitä oli varissut tälle hiekkakäytävälle vieressä olevista isoista puista. Kuuset varistavat männyistä poiketen vähitellen koko vuoden aikana neulasiaan. Taannoisen kuivuuden takia neulasten variseminen oli tosin nyt heinä - elokuussa melko runsasta ja niiden kertymäaika oli pitkä ilman huuhtovia sateita. Niinpä voimakkaan sateen tultua tällaiset neulaskuviot olivat tavanomaista näyttävämpiä. Tämä on esimerkki siitä, että voimakas sade aiheuttaa itse pinnan syöpymisen lisäksi pinnan päällä olevasta materiaalista hauskoja kuviota. Niitäkin kannattaa tarkastella esteettisenä ilmiönä eikä ollenkaan roskina. Tähän mennessä tulleet sateet olivat saaneet aikaan jo mm. nurmikoiden selvän elpymisen uuteen kasvuun. Puuvartiset kasvit (ne jotka eivät olleet kuolleet tai siirtyneet ennenaikaiseen talvilepoon kuivuuden takia) olivat elpymässä paljon hitaammin, koska vettä ei ehtinyt vielä imeytyä syvällä oleville juurille. Syntynyt sadevaje oli niin suuri, että maalla oli todella paljon imettävää ennen kuin kaikki kasvit pääsisivät käyttämään uutta vettä hyväkseen. Influences of the previous day's thundershower were also present in this picture photographed early in the morning. In there we see needles of Norway Spruce (Picea abies) piled up in shapes with the flowing water. During the long drought they had been shed onto this sandy pavement from the big trees beside this pavement. As opposed to pines the spruces shed their needles cradually during whole year. Due to the earlier drought the shedding was now in July - August rather profuse though and their time of cumulation was long. Therefore as the heavy rain came these kinds of needle shapes were more showy than usually. This is a example of the fact, where in addition to the corroding of the actual surface a heavy rain causes funny shapes of the material on the surface. They also should be observed as an esthetic phenomenon and not at all as rubbish. The rains up to here had allready been caused amongst others a clear recovering of the lawns into a new growth. The woody plants (those, which weren't dead or fallen in winter dormancy ahead of schedule due to the drought) were recovering much slower, because water hadn't had yet the time to absorb into the roots deep in the ground. The formed lack of rain supply was so big, that the soil had really much to absorb before all plants would have a change to take advantage of the new water. Suomen eteläpuolelle asettunut matalapaine piti tässä vaiheessa yllä yhtäältä tavanomaista lämpimämpää ilmamassaa ja toisaalta ilman kosteuden lisäännyttyä sade- ja ukkoskuuroja esiintyi monin paikoin nyt myös etelärannikolla. Päivälämpötilat olivat edelleen selvästi yli +20 astetta ajoittain runsaasta pilvisyydestä huolimatta. Lisääntynyt kosteus ja kuvauspäiväksi heikentynyt tuuli tiesivät myös yöllä ja aamulla sumua - usvaa. Tuo kuva on otettu Espoon Tapiolassa, jossa ko. iltapäivän aikana tuli lyhyen aikaa voimakasta sadetta ukkoskuurosta. Tämä oli ensimmäinen kerta koko kesänä, kun näin kävi tällä alueella. Alueen aikaisempi poikkeuksellinen kuivuus ilmeni siten hyvin, kun normaalisti vastaavia ja voimakkaampia ukkossateita olisi useita pitkin kesää. Niinpä ukkossateen takia hiekkapintaisilla väylillä nähtiin ensimmäistä kertaa kunnolla koko kesänä vahvoja veden virtauksen aiheuttamia kuvioita, joista kuvassa on yksi esimerkki. Siinä vesi virtasi vain n. tunti ennen kuvan ottoa kuvan alareunasta kohti yläreunaa. Tällaiset veden virtauskuviot ovat hiekkaväylien mielenkiintoinen piirre, joista voi arvioida helposti päättyneiden sateiden voimakkuuksia, kun on oppinut tuntemaan olosuhteita erilaisten sateiden aikana. Virtauskuvioihin sisältyy myös kaunista estetiikkaa. Niinpä niitä kannattaa tarkastella myös siltä kannalta eikä vain tienpidollisesta näkökulmasta, jossa kaikki epätasaisuudet pitäisi heti vain tasoittaa. Liikennettä haittaavat syöpymät ovat asia erikseen; tämä väylä on vain kevyelle liikenteelle, joten kuvassa ilmenevä haitta oli mitätön. Tuo kuvio syntyi siten, että vesi huuhtoi päältä karkeaa uutta pinnoitetta ja sen alta paljastui tiivistä vanhaa pintaa, joka ei vielä syöpynyt sateen voimakkuudesta huolimatta. A low pressure settled in the southern side of Finland kept in one had the warmer than usual air mass prevailing and on the other hand as the air moisture increased there appeared showers and thunder in many places now also by the southern coast. The afternoon temperatures were further clearly more than +20 C despite occasionally dense cloudyness. Increased moisture and the calmed down winds until the photoshooting day meant also fog - mist during the night and morning. That picture is taken in the district of Tapiola in Espoo, where during this afternoon there came briefly heavy rain from a thundershower. This was the first time this summer, that this happened in this region. The earlier unusual drought was revealed this way finely, as these kinds of and also heavier thundershowers would normally appear in several numbers during all summer. Therefore due to the thundershower we saw on sand paved paths strong water made shapes for the first time properly during this summer. In the picture there is one example of that. In there the water flowed only about an hour before the photoshoot from the bottom of the picture towards the upper edge. These kinds of waterflow born shapes are an interesting feature of the sand paved paths, from which one can estimate easily strengths of ended rains, when one have learned to know circumstances during different types of rain. There are also beautiful esthetic values including in the waterflow shapes. Therefore they should be observed also from that perspective and not only from a road maintenance view, where all uneven spots should immediately just be smoothed). The corroded spots harming traffic are a different story; this path is only for the pedestrians, so the harm appearing in the picture was insignificant. That shape was formed in the way, where the water washed the new and coarse pavement away from the top and underneath from that there was revealed tight and old surface, which wasn't yet corroded despite the strenght of the rain. Tavanomaista lämpimämpi sää jatkui edelleen koko ajan edellisen kuvan jälkeen. Päivälämpötilat olivat ajoittain lähellä +25 astetta ja yölämpötilat +10 ja +15 asteen välillä. Etelärannikolla oli joinakin öinä paikoin jopa yli +15 astetta alimmillaan Suomenlahden lämmittävän vaikutuksen takia. Aikaisempi ennätyskuivuus alkoi viimein hellittää vähitellen edellisen tilanteen jälkeen yleistyneiden kuurosateiden ansiosta. Lämmennyt meri ei kuitenkaan estänyt kokonaan iltapäivien merituulta, jonka takia etelärannikolla oli edelleen sisämaata vähemmän iltapäiväkuuroja. Toisaalta paikallisten ukkosten takia maaperä kastui joillakin alueilla jo useita senttejä syvälle. Pimenevien öiden aikana kastetta muodostui aikaisempaa enemmän ja toisaalta aurinko ei haihduttanut kosteutta enää kesä - heinäkuun tapaan. Kuiva maa imi uuden kosteuden kuitenkin niin ahnaasti, että pohjaveteen ja muihin vesistöihin sateilla oli vasta vähän vaikutusta; joet ja ojat alkoivat täyttyä nopeimmin. Niinpä näiden vesien pinnat pysyivät paljon normaalia alempina; paikoin n. 1 metrin luokkaa. Tuo kuva on otettu Espoon Tapiolassa. Siinä nähdään varisseita metsämännyn (Pinus sylvestris) neulasia nurmikolla. Monet mäntylajit varistavat tyypillisesti 3 - 5 vuotta vanhoja neulasiaan kesän lopulla - alku syksyllä. Yleensä yksi kokonainen vuosikerta (Etelä-Suomessa kolmas vuosikerta) varisee kerralla parissa - kolmessa viikossa. Tämä mäntyjen piirre on tavallaan syksyn ensimmäinen ruskatapahtuma, kun lehtipuut ovat silloin vielä käytännössä kokonaan kesäasussa. Tämän kesän ennätyskuivuus etelärannikolla varhaisti tätä mäntyjen ruskaa parilla viikolla kosteillakin kasvupaikoilla. Siihen vaikutti myös yli kaksi viikkoa aikataulustaan edellä ollut kasvukausi. Niinpä kuvan neulaset alkoivat varista jo elokuun alkupuolella, kun sen pitäisi tapahtua normaalisti elo - syyskuun vaihteen tienoilla. The warmer than usual weather continued further all the time since the previous picture. The afternoon temperatures were occasionally near +25 C and the night temperatures between +10 and +15 C. By the southern coast there was locally even more than +15 C at the lowest at night due to the warming influence of The Gulf Of Finland. The earlier record breaking drought started finally to ease cradually as showers were increased after the previous situation. However the warmed up sea didn't prevent completely the sea breeze of afternoons to appear, from which reason there were further less afternoon showers by the southern coast than in inland areas. On the other hand due to local thunderstorms the soil was wetted locally for several centimetres deep in some areas. During the darkening nights there formed dew more profusely than before and on the other hand the sun didn't cause evaporation of water anymore in the same way as during June - July. However the dry soil absorbed the new moisture so hungrily, that the rains had yet only little influence to the ground water and other water areas; the rivers and ditches started to fill up the most rapidly. Therefore levels of these waters remained a lot under a normal level; locally about 1 meter. That picture is taken in the district of Tapiola in Espoo. In there we see shed needles of Scots Pine (Pinus sylvestris) on a lawn. Many pine species shed their 3 to 5 year old needles at the end of summer - early autumn. Usually one whole annual volume (in southern Finland the third annual volume) will shed at once during two to three weeks. This feature of the pines is therefore in a way the first autumn / fall colours, as the broadleave trees are then yet in full summer stage in practise. This summer's record breaking drought by the southern coast made these fall colours of the pines to appear about two weeks ahead of schedule also in moist localitys. There was an effect on that also due to the growing season being more than two weeks ahead of schedule. Therefore the needles in the picture started to shed allready during early August, when that should happen normally at the turn of August and September. Tässä on yksi kuva lisää satunnaisiin eläinkuviini tässä blogissa. Kuvassa on erään ystäväpariskuntani koira Ringo kolme päivää yli kaksi kuukautta vanhana. Se on Parsonrussellinterrieri. Kuva näyttää yhtäältä yksinkertaisesti kaunista harmoniaa koiran ja nurmikon pinnan välillä ja toisaalta siinä nähdään, kuinka kuivuus jatkui edelleen ankarana vähän lisääntyneestä kosteudesta huolimatta. Tämä nurmikko oli niin pahoin kuivuuden kärventämä, että edellisen päivän sateilla ei ollut vielä ollenkaan elvyttävää vaikutusta. Kuivuuden takia tällaiset lemmikkieläimetkin säästyivät edelleen melko puhtaina (verrattuna märkään ja siten likaiseen) ulkoiluistaan pölyä ja joitakin irtokorsia lukuun ottamatta. Kuva on otettu edellisen kuvan jälkeen saman päivän iltana Helsingissä meren rannan lähellä Eirassa. Kuvaustilanteessa aurinko oli vielä taivaanrannan yläpuolella, mutta lounaassa - lännessä lähestynyt ukkoskuuroalue peitti jo pilvisyydellään auringon. In here there is one picture more into random animal pictures in this blog. In the picture there is one of my friend couple's dog Ringo as 3 days over two months old. He is a Parson Russell Terrier. The picture shows in one hand simply a beautiful harmony between the dog and the surface of the lawn and on the other hand we see, how the drought continued further in a severe way despite a little increased moisture. This lawn was so badly scorched by the drought, that the rains of the previous day didn't have yet a riviving effect at all. Due to the drought these kinds of pets as well got away rather clean (as compared to wet and therefore dirty) with their outgoings not counted for dust and some loose straws. The photo is taken after the previous photo in the same day's evening in Helsinki near the shore of the sea in the district of Eira. In the moment of the photoshoot the sun was yet over the horizon, but a thundershower area approaching in the southwest - west was allready covering the sun with its cloudyness. Etelä-Suomi kuului edelleen lämpimään ilmamassaan ja päivälämötila oli +23,3 astetta. Yöllä oli +9,7 astetta, koska sää oli tyyntä ja ajoittain melko selkeää; sisämaassa kehittyi paikoin usvaa - sumua etelärannikkoa paremmin kastuneiden maiden takia (mm. edellisen päivän sateet). Lähellä lounaassa ollut laajan matalapaineen osakeskus piti sadekuuroja ja paikallisia ukkosia yllä. Niinpä päivä oli ajoittain runsaspilvinen, mutta sadetta ei juuri sattunut yllä olevien kuvien alueille. Edellisen päivän sade ei vielä vaikuttanut kunnolla ruohovartistenkaan kasvien vointiin, mutta tässä alemmassa kuvassa nähdään tuon nurmikon alkaneen jo toipua, kun vihreää kasvua näkyi aavistuksen enemmän kuin parisen päivää sitten. Kuva on otettu Espoon Tapiolassa. Tämä nurmikon osa on pelikenttää, jonka takia sitä tallotaan paljon. Tallomisen seurauksena kohdalla kasvaa runsaasti piharatamoa (Plantago major), joka on sopeutunut kasvamaan tällaisilla nurmikon kohdilla. Kuivuuden takia nurmikkoa ei oltu leikattu sitten kesäkuun lopun, joten piharatamoiden kukintovarret pääsivät kehittymään rauhassa loppuun asti ja kuivuutta melko hyvin sietävinä ne eivät kärsineet yhtä paljon kuin heinät. Niinpä kuvassa oli kokonainen armeija ruskeana sojottavia piharatamoiden hedelmävarsia. Tästä oli esimerkki myös aikaisemmin heinäkuussa aurinkoisessa tilanteessa. Southern Finland belonged further in a warm air mass and the afternoon temperature was +23,3 C. At night there was +9,7 C, because the weather was calm and occasionally rather clear; in inland areas there formed locally mist - fog due to better wetted soils than by the southern coast (the rains of the previous day amongst others). A subcenter of a wide low pressure near in the southwest kept the showers and local thunder appearing. Therefore the day was occasionally filled with clouds, but there hardly didn't come rain into the areas of the two pictures above. The rain of the previous day didn't have yet a proper effect to even herbacious plants, but in this lower picture we see that the lawn started its recovering, as there was a hint of green growth more than couple of days ago. The picture is taken in the district of Tapiola in Espoo. This part of the lawn is a playing field, which causes it to be stamped a lot. As caused by the stamping there on the spot grows a lot of Common Plantains (Plantago major), which are used to grow on these kinds of spots of lawn. Due to the drought the lawn hadn't been mowed since late June, so the flowerheads of Common Plantains had a change to develop to the end in piece and as they can withstand drougth rather well they weren't harmed as much as the hays. Therefore there was stouting a whole army of brown fruitingheads of Common Plantains in the picture. There was an example of this also earlier in July in the sunny situation. Etelä-Suomeen saatiin kuvauspäivänä vihdoin sadetta, mutta kesälle tyypilliseen tapaan sade oli kuurottaista ja niiden paikalliset vaihtelut olivat siten melko suuria. Sateet johtuivat siitä, kun Tanskan tienoille voimistui edellisenä päivänä matalapaine ja sen rintamasysteemi liikkui kuvauspäivänä eteläisen Suomen yli pohjoiseen. Samalla sää hieman viileni, mutta pysyi edelleen tavanomaista lämpimämpänä; kuvauspäivänä päivälämpötila oli +21,0 astetta runsaasta pilvisyydestä huolimatta. Tämä kuva on otettu Espoon Tapiolassa vähän sen jälkeen, kun ko. rintamaan liittynyt sade oli lakannut. Puistolan tarkastelupisteellä satoi 3,6 mm ja muutenkaan ko. seudulla ei satanut kovin paljoa. Niinpä ennätyksellisen kuiva maa kastui alueella vain pari - kolme senttiä pinnalta (hiekkamaat kastuivat läpäisevinä jopa yli 5 cm syvälle) ja lähinnä vain ruohovartiset kasvit saivat vähän helpotusta kuivuuteen. Kuvassa nähdään asfaltin pinnalle heinäkuun lopussa ja osittain elokuun puolella varisseita rauduskoivujen (Betula pendula) siemeniä. Ne olivat ennen sadetta melko tasaisena kerroksena (korkeintaan vähän - kohtalaisesti tuulten kasaamia). Päivän sade oli sen verran runsasta, että tuota pintaa pitkin valunut vesi järjesti siemeniä kuvioittain. Asfaltin pinta oli vielä vähän märkä, jonka takia se näytti tummalta. Aikaisempi kuivuus oli vaurioittanut siemeniä sen verran, että niiden kastuminen pelasti nyt vain pienen osan niistä. Kuvassa oli myös näiden koivujen kellastuneita lehtiä kuivuuden varistamina. There came finally rain into southern Finland during the photoshooting day, but typically for summer the precipitation was showery in nature and therefore their local differences were rather big. The rains were caused by the fact, where a low pressure strengthened around Denmark and its frontal system moved across southern Finland to the north during the photoshooting day. At the same time the weather got a bit cooler, but it remained further warmer than usually; in the photoshooting day the afternoon temperature was +21,0 C despite the plentyfull cloudyness. This picture is taken in the district of Tapiola in Espoo a bit after the rain of the mentioned front had been ended. There rained 3,6 millimetres at the observation post of Puistola and otherwise as well there didn't rain much in this region. Therefore the record breakingly dry soil was wetted only couple of centimetres on the surface in the region (sandy soils were wetted even more than 5 centimetres deep as they are more penetrating) and mainly just herbacious plants got a little relief to the drought. In the picture we see Silver Birch (Betula pendula) seeds shed during late July and partly in August onto an asphalt. They were settled before the rain as a rather even layer (a little - moderately drifted by winds at the most). The rain of the day was profuse in such a way, that the water flowed along that surface assembled the seeds in shapes. The surface of the asphalt was yet a little wet, which resulted it to look dark. The earlier drought had been damaged the seeds in such a way, that their wetting saved now only a small number of them. Tässä puistolehmuksen keskenkasvuiset hedelmät olivat pudonneet kivetyn väylän päälle. Hämeenlinnassa on runsaasti tällaisia vanhoja kiveyksiä. Edelliseen kuvaan verrattuna nämä kevyet lenninsiivelliset hedelmät olivat kasautuneet tässä tuulen mukana. Edellisessä kuvassa kasautumista ehkäisivät nurmikon korret, joihin hedelmät jäivät kiinni. Normaalisti puistolehmuksen hedelmät pysyisivät puussa kiinni jopa pitkälle talveen niiden kypsyttyä. Nyt ensimmäistä kertaa historiassa käytännössä lähes kaikkien eteläisen Suomen lehmusten hedelmät jäivät kuivuuden takia valmistumatta näin laajassa mitassa. Etelärannikolla näiden hedelmien varisemista tapahtui monin paikoin pari viikkoa aikaisemmin pidemmälle ehtineen kuivuuden takia. Molemmilla alueilla variseminen tapahtui vähitellen n. kahden viikon aikana. Mikään muu puulaji ei varistanut keskenkasvuisia hedelmiään näin runsaasti, vaan esim. kotipihlajilla (Sorbus aucuparia) marjat osittain vain kuivuivat puihin "rusinoiksi". In here the immature fruits of Common Linden had been shed on a stone paved path. In Hämeenlinna there is a lot of these kinds of old pavements. As compared to the previous picture here the light fly winged fruits had been drifted along with winds. In the previous picture the drifting was prevented by the lawn's straws, where the fruits remained entact. Normally the fruits of Common Linden would remain on trees even far into winter as they are ripened. Now for the first time in history allmost all fruits of lindens in southern Finland remained unfinished in this large scale due to the drought. By the southern coast shedding of these fruits happened couple of weeks earlier in many places due to the drought being progressed further. In both regions the shedding happened cradually during about two weeks. No other tree species didn't shed their immature fruits in such large numbers, but for example Rowan / European Mountain Ash (Sorbus aucuparia) just dried its berries partly on trees into "raisins". Hämeenlinnan kuivuus näkyi myös tässä yllä olevassa kuvaparissa nähtävällä tavalla, jossa maahan oli varissut puistolehmuksien (Tilia x vulgaris) hedelmiä. Lehdet olivat edelleen puissa melkein kokonaan, koska kuivuuden vaivat alkavat ilmetä kasveilla tyypillisesti siten, että puut ja pensaat varistavat ensin keskenkasvuiset hedelmänsä. Näin ne säätelevät energian kulutustaan olosuhteiden hitaasti heikentyessä. Puistolehmus on Suomen kaupungeissa kaikkein yleisin katupuu ja tässä on myös kyseessä kadun vieressä oleva nurmikkokaistale, jossa ko. vanhahkot puut ovat. Säätilanne: valitse Base Time 13.8.2006. The drought of Hämeenlinna was appearing also in the way of this pair of photos above, where there had been shed fruits of Common Linden / Hybrid Lime (Tilia x vulgaris) onto the ground. Leaves were yet allmost completely on the trees, because typically troubles of drought start to appear to plants in the way, where trees and shrubs will shed firstly their immature fruits. In this way they control their consumption of energy as circumstances get slowly worse. Common Linden is the most common street tree in towns and cities of Finland and here as well is the case, where there is a stripe of lawn beside a street with these oldish trees. Samanlainen sää ja kuivuus jatkuivat edelleen eteläisessä Suomessa. Pilvisyys oli melkein koko ajan vähäistä ja päivälämpötilat olivat n. +25 astetta ja yölämpötilat n. +10 astetta; rannikolla paikoin n. +15 astetta. Tässä vaiheessa etelärannikon kuivuus oli kehittynyt kaikkien aikojen pahimmaksi, koska sadetta ei ollut tullut kunnolla - juuri ollenkaan sitten toukokuun etenkin rannikon länsiosissa. Tämä yllä oleva kolmen kuvan sarja on kuvattu sisämaassa Hämeenlinnassa, jossa kuivuus oli selvästi vähäisempää sisämaassa kesän aikana esiintyneiden runsaampien kuurosateiden takia. Monin paikoin täälläkin oli silti huomattavan kuivaa tässä vaiheessa, jota tämä kuvasarja kuvastaa. Tässä alimmassa kuvassa nähdään eräs versio kuivuuden tukahduttamasta kasvusta nurmikoilla. Ko. kohta on varjoinen (mm. kadun silta varjostaa kohtaa) ja se sijaitsee kävelytien vieressä, joten kohtaa tallataan usein. Näistä johtuen olosuhteet ilmenivät näin; kohdan piharatamoiden (Plantago major) kasvu heikkeni, mutta paahteettomuuden takia vain jonkin verran. Nuutuminen kuitenkin altisti kasvit hometaudeille (lehdissä oleva harmaa vaha), joita esiintyi tässä vaiheessa tällaisilla paikoilla poikkeuksellisen paljon koko eteläisessä Suomessa. The same kind of weather and drought continued in southern Finland. The cloudyness was allmost all the time minor and the afternoon temperatures were about +25 C and the night temperatures about +10 C; locally about +15 C by the coast. At this stage the drought of the southern coast had been evolved into the worst of all time, because there haven't been rain properly - hardly at all since May especially in the western parts of the coast. This series of three pictures above is taken in inland in Hämeenlinna, where there was much less drought due to more plentyfull showers in the inland areas during the summer. However in here as well there was significantly dry in many places, which this photo series reflects. In this lowest picture we see one version of the suffocated growth on lawns due to the drought. The spot in question is shadowy (a street bridge is shadowing the spot amongst others) and it is situated beside a pedestrian path, which results the spot being treaded often. Due to these the circumstances appeared in this way; the growth of the spot's Common Plantains (Plantago major) got weaker, but due to the scorchless feature only a little. However the withering predisposed the plants to mold diseases (the grey wax on the leaves), which were appearing in unusually big amounts at this phase in these kinds of places in whole southern Finland. They weakened the growth of the plants furthermore. So the molds doesn't require necessarily a moist summer for them to grow. Weather condition: choose Base Time 13.8.2006. Wetter3 A. Wetter3 B.

Tehoisa lämpösumma - The Effective Temperature Sum: 1149,7

Edellisen kuvasarjan jälkeen Etelä-Suomessa vallitsi koko ajan melkein samanlainen sää; pilvisyys oli hyvin vähäistä ja ilmamassa oli helteinen; 5. - 7. päivinä iltapäivän lämpötilat olivat yli +25 astetta ja sitten n. +25 astetta. Heikkojen tuulten ja vähäisen pilvisyyden vuoksi yöt olivat vähän viileitä; n. +10 astetta, mutta lämpimän meren takia etelärannikolla oli paikoin n. +15 asteen minimilämpötiloja. Vallitsevina tuulina olivat itä- ja kaakkoistuulet, koska matalapaineita oli lähinnä Suomen etelä- ja kaakkoispuolilla ja korkeapaineita pohjoisessa ja idässä. Tämä kuva on otettu Helsingissä Kaisaniemen kasvitieteellisessä puutarhassa ja se on otettu poikkeuksellisesti salamavalolla. Kuvassa nähdään orava (Sciurus vulgaris), vihreää nurmikkoa ja kiiltotuhkapensaan (Cotoneaster lucidus) oksia. Tämä puisto oli esimerkki siitä, kuinka nurmikko ja muut kasvit saatiin pysymään kastelulla vihreinä ja pääosin hyvävointisina erittäin pahasta kuivuudesta huolimatta. Kastelu oli jokapäiväistä yli kuukauden ajan. Puisto toimi tämän takia todellisena vihreänä keitaana myös eläimille ja esim. nämä oravatkin viihtyivät alueella. After the previous photo series there prevailed all the time allmost same kind of weather in southern Finland; the cloudyness was very minor and the air mass was hot; during the 5th to the 7th days the afternoon temperatures were over +25 C and then about +25 C. Due to weak winds and minor clouds the nights were a bit cool; about +10 C, but by the southern coast due to the warm sea there were locally minimum readings of about +15 C. Prevailing winds came from east and southeast, because low pressures were mainly in the southern and southeastern side of Finland and high pressures were in the north and east. This picture is taken in Helsinki in the botanical garden of Kaisaniemi and it's been photographed exceptionally with the flashlight. We see in the picture Eurasian Red Squirrel (Sciurus vulgaris), a green lawn and shoots of Hedge Cotoneaster (Cotoneaster lucidus). This park was a good example of how the lawn and other plants were being kept green and mainly well thriving with a watering despite the very bad drought. The watering was done daily for more than a month. Due to this the park was playing a part of a real green oasis for animals as well and for example also these squirrels were enjoying themselves finely in the area.
