Tässä kuvassa oli kuuraisen nurmikon päälle vastasatanutta pakkaslunta kuvattuna edelleen samana päivänä kuin alemmat kuvat. Kuvauspaikka on Helsingin Puistolassa eräässä puistossa. Koska lumen satamisen aikana oli heikkotuulista, niin lumi asettui kauniisti ruohon korsien peitoksi. Korsissa ollut kuura auttoi lumen tarttumista. Sama ilmiö syntyy, kun märkä suojalumi sataa paljaalle nurmikolle. Silloin ei haittaa, vaikka olisi hieman tuulistakin. In this picture there was freshly fallen snow on the frosty lawn pictured further at the same day like the previous photos. The location is in the district of Puistola in Helsinki in some park. Due to weak winds the fallen snow covered the grass beautifully. The frostcover on the straws helped the snow to grab on. Same phenomenon occurs, when a wet thaw snow is fallen on the lawn. Then it's not cruisial if it's even a bit windy. On the other hand during a frosty and windy weather the snow is fallen amongst the steam of grass leaving the separate straws to stout naked. Tässä kuvassa hiekkaväylän päällä oli niin paksusti puhdasta jäätä, että hiekka ja jää näyttivät yhdessä eräänlaiselta asfaltilta. Jää oli hyvin kovaa, joten liikenne ei helposti irrottanut hiekkaa. Näillä kuvien väylillä liikenne on kuitenkin tyypillisesti hyvin vähäistä ja jalankulkupainotteista. Satanut pakkaslumi oli pöllynnyt pois jään päältä tässä tilanteessa. Wetter3 B.In this picture there was so thick layer of pure ice on the surface of the sandy path, that both the ice and the sand resembled together some kind of asphalt. Ice was very hard and therefore any sand wasn't easily loosen apart due to traffic. However the traffic on the paths of these pictures are typically very minimal and it's being emphasized to the pedestrians. The dry frosty snow had been flown away of the ice in this case. Tässä kuvassa vähäinen ja kuiva pakkaslumi oli sekoittunut irtonaisen hiekan sekaan. Ko. hiekka oli irronnut liikenteen vaikutuksesta, vaikka se oli jäätyneenä kuin betonia. Tässä on huomattavaa myös se, että jäädyttyään tällainen märkä hiekka käyttäytyy hieman, kuten kuiva hiekka kesällä; se on vaaleampaa ja pöllyävämpää kuin märkä. Wetter3 B.In this picture the minimal amount of dry frozen snow had been blend with a loose sand. This sand had been loosen apart due to traffic, allthough it was like concrete when frozen. It is notable here also, that when frozen this kind of wet sand resembles dry sand of summer; it's lighter in colour tone and more dusty. Yllä olevat neljä kuvaa on otettu melkein samaan aikaan samana päivänä Espoon Tapiolassa. Kuvasarja näyttää liikenneväylien päällä olevia lumi- ja jäätilanteita. Hyvin vähäinen määrä lunta oli satanut ko. päivänä ja talven ankarin pakkasjakso (alin lämpötila oli -14,5 astetta edellisenä päivänä) tähän mennessä oli päättymässä; pitkään vaikuttanut korkeapaineen selänne oli heikentynyt ja lännestä lähestynyt matalapaine toi lauhduttavan lounaistuulen. Kuvien ottotilanteissa oli kuitenkin vielä pakkasta useita asteita. Tässä kuvassa nähdään jäätynyttä hiekkaväylää, jossa oli tummempina laikkuina jäätä ja vasemmalla puolella ohuesti pakkaslunta. The four pictures seen above are taken allmost at the same time during the same day in the district of Tapiola In Espoo (near Helsinki). The photo series is showing ice and snow conditions on the surfaces of different traffic pathways. A very little amount of snow had been fallen during that day and the period of a sharpest frosty (the minimum temperature was -14,5 C at the previous day) weather of the winter so far was ending; a longlasting ridge of high pressure was weakened and a low pressure nearing from the west brought a milder southwesterly wind. However at the times of these photoshoots the temperature was still freezing for several degrees. In this picture we see frozen sandy path in which there was darker icepatches and on the left side dry frosty snow thinly. On the right side the snow had been moved away due to traffic. Kuvassa on samaa nurmikkoa kuin edellisessä kuvassa, mutta tässä on mukana myös viereistä puistokäytävää. Tilanne ja kuvauspaikka olivat kuitenkin samat. Kuvaussuunta on melkein kohti laskevaa aurinkoa, joka itse asiassa oli jo painunut tässä vaiheessa taivaanrannan taakse. Aikaisemmista lumisateista ja niitä seuranneista suojasääjaksoista jääneet lumenrippeet puistokäytävällä olivat tämän päivän pakkasessa jäätyneet. Wetter3 B.In the picture there's the same lawn than in the previous photo, but in addition here is path of the park as well. However the situation and location of the photoshoot were both the same. The shooting direction of the photo is allmost towards the setting sun, which was actually allready gone under the horizon at this stage. Previous snowfalls and the thaw that followed them left little remains of the snowcover, which had been frozen on the path due to the frosty weather of this day. Kuvassa oleva nurmikko oli vahvasti kuurassa. Kuva on otettu Helsingin Siltamäessä eräässä puistossa. Tässä vaiheessa etelärannikko oli käytännössä lumeton, mutta Etelä-Suomen sisämaassa oli edelleen lumipeite. Tällaista kuuraa ei synny joka pakkasyönä, sillä syntyäkseen se vaatii riittävän heikkoa tuulta ja kosteutta. Suomen talvessa voi kuitenkin tuulla voimakkaasti myös pakkassäällä ja ilmamassa olla hyvin kuivaa, jolloin kuuraa ei synny edes kovassakaan pakkasessa. Silti Suomessa marras - helmikuussa aurinko on niin matalalla (lämmittävä vaikutus niin pieni), että monissa säätilanteissa kuuraa syntyy ja säilyy myös iltapäivisin. Kuvan tilanteessa heikkotuulisen yön aikana syntynyt kuura säilyi pitkälle päivään, mutta lämpötila nousi +1,4 asteeseen myöhään illalla matalapaineen tuoman lounaistuulen myötä; niinpä kuura suli yöhön mennessä pois. At this moment southern coast was practically snowless, but in inland areas of southern Finland there were snowcover remaining further. This kind of frostcover doesn't form in every frosty night, because it requires weak enough winds and enough moisture. In finnish winter during frosty temperatures it can also be very windy and air mass being very dry, therefore frostcover doesn't form despite even severely freezing temperatures. However in Finland the sun shines in so low position (the heating effect being so weak) during November - February, that in many weather conditions frostcovers are formed and remained also at afternoon hours. In the captured situation the frostcover formed at night and remained into noon, but the temperature rose to +1,4 C late in the evening caused by a southwesterly wind of a approaching low pressure; so the frostcover melted away until night. Kuvassa nähdään jäätynyttä vettä ja lumen jäänteitä nurmikon painanteessa. Kuva on otettu Espoon Tapiolassa eräässä puistossa. Kuvan tilanteeseen mennessä oli vallinnut lyhyt pakkasjakso leudon (lämpötilat suurimman osan aikaa suojan puolella) joulukuun alun jälkeen ja sadetta saatiin hyvin vähän. Maa oli jäätynyt muutamia senttejä pakkasjakson aikana. Lämpötila oli alimmillaan -8,1 astetta juuri ko. päivänä. Vesilätäkön jäätymisen aikana oli käynyt hyvin tyypillisesti niin, että sula vesi oli haihtunut juuri muodostuneen jään alta. Wetter3 B.In the picture we see frozen water and remains of the snow in the depression of the lawn. The photo is taken in the district of Tapiola in Espoo (near Helsinki) in some park. There was short frosty period after mild start (the temperatures were mostly on the thaw side) at the beginning of December before this photo was taken and there was allmost no precipitation. The soil had been frozen a few centimetres during the frosty period. The temperature was at lowest -8,1 C just at this day. During the freez of the puddle the free water evaporated under the just formed ice and so a cave was formed very typically under the ice layer.
