Kotipihlajan kukkien terälehdet ovat hyvin pieniä, joten varistessaan ne käyttäytyvät samaan tapaan kuin lumihiutaleet pakkasella. Tuuli kuljettaa ja kasaa niitä helposti erilaisiin muodostelmiin. The flower petals of Rowan / European Mountain Ash are very small, so when they shed they act in the same way as snowflakes during a frosty weather. The wind carries them and piles them up easily into different formations. In here on a coarse spot of the asphalt they had been remained in this way in place. Too hard winds would have blown even these away, but weak and at the most moderate (the sea breeze) winds at the situation were suitable for nature's petal art.
