Kahden edellisen päivän aikana Etelä-Suomen ylitti kaksi kylmää rintamaa, jotka viilensivät säätä hieman. Lämpötilat pysyivät kuitenkin edelleen melko korkeina (vähän yli +25 astetta), koska Suomen etelä- ja kaakkoispuolelle jäi paikalleen erittäin kuumaa ilmaa (lämpötilat +30 - vähän yli +35 astetta). Em. rintamien ylityksiin liittyi voimakkaitakin ukkosia, mutta vain paikoin ja etelärannikolla monet alueet jäivät edelleen ilman sateita. Kuivuus siis paheni etenkin etelärannikolla. Tämä kuva on otettu Kaisaniemen kasvitieteellisessä puutarhassa. Siinä oli hiekkakäytävän varrella jo parisen viikkoa sitten varissutta poppelien (Populus sp.) siemenlaskeumaa. Koska tässä puistossa poppeleita on useita lajeja, niin tuo laskeuma koostui tässä vaiheessa monen lajin siemenistä; tuuli oli kuljettanut niitä ja kaikki poppelit olivat jo siementäneet etuajassa. Nyt tuo siemenlaskeuma oli tummunut auringon paahteessa ruskeammaksi ja ajan kanssa tuo kerros oli myös tiivistynyt ja muotoutunut yhtenäiseksi matoksi (ei sateiden takia, koska sadetta oli alueella viimeksi kesäkuussa). Sateettomilla ja kuivilla alueilla poppelien siementen itäminen epäonnistui kokonaan, koska nämä siemenet pysyvät elossa korkeintaan muutamia päiviä ilman vettä. Kaikki nämä siemenet olivat kuitenkin lajikkeiden alkiottomia siemeniä. Säätilanne: valitse Base Time 11.7.2006. Wetter3 A. Wetter3 B.

During the previous two days southern Finland was crossed by two cold fronts, which cooled the weather a little. However the temperatures remained further rather high (a bit over +25 C), because in the southern and southeastern side of Finland there stayed very hot air (temperatures from +30 C to a little over +35 C) in place. There were associated also severe thunder with the crossings of the fronts, but only locally and many areas by the southern coast remained further without rain. So the drought got worse especially by the southern coast. This picture is taken in the botanical garden of Kaisaniemi in Helsinki. In there beside a sandy path there was seed fallout of Poplars (Populus sp.) shed allready couple of weeks ago. Because there are many poplar species in this garden, so this fallout consisted at this stage of seeds from many species; winds had been moved them and all poplars had been shed their seeds allready ahead of schedule. Now that seed fallout had been darkened more brown in the scorch of the sun and with time it had also been compressed and transformed into an uniform carpet (not due to rains, because in this area there was rain in June the last time). In the dry areas without rain the germination of all poplar seeds failed completely, because these seeds remain alive couple of days at the most without water.
