Tässä koivujen (taajamissa lähinnä rauduskoivu (Betula pendula)) siemenet olivat lentäneet asfaltin päälle. Tuulet olivat sen verran heikkoja, että näinkin kevyet siemenet jäivät tällaisille pinnoille laajoina ja melko tasaisina kerroksina useiksi päiviksi. Toisin paikoin tapahtui kuitenkin kinostumista samaan tapaan kuin kuiva pakkaslumi tekee talvella. Kuivuuden jatkuminen tiesi näille siemenille itämisen selvää heikentymistä. Osa koivujen siemenistä itäisi heti samana kesänä varistuaan ja toinen osa säilyy lepotilassa talven yli. Nyt jälkimmäistenkin itäminen ollee seuraavana vuonna hyvin epävarmaa... In here the birch (in densely build areas mainly Silver Birch (Betula pendula)) seeds had been flown on an asphalt. Winds were weak in such a way, that so lightly weighted seeds remained on these kinds of surfaces in wide and rather even layers for several days. However on other spots there happened locally drifting into piles in the same way as a dry frosty snow acts during winter. The continuing of the drought meant a clear decreasing of the germination capability to these seeds. A part of the birch seeds would germinate immediately during the same summer as they are shed and the other part will remain dormant over winter. Now the germination of the latter as well will be very uncertain during the next year... Both of the pictures in this pair are taken in the district of Tapiola in Espoo.
